Stoughton High Cross Country Teams Take Part in Bay State Invitational
Nick Green paced the boys' team and Amy Kelly, Kerry O'Neil and Deirdre Simms paced the girls' team at the MSTCA event Saturday in Wrentham.
Nick Green, Amy Kelly, Kerry O’Neil and Deirdre Simms led the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams on Saturday at the MSTCA Bay State Invitational in Wrentham.
There were three races at the Division 1 level—one for freshmen, one for junior varsity and one for varsity.
“The course was not fast due to wet conditions and the muggy weather also was not conducive to exceptionally fast times,” boys’ coach Harvey Blonder said.

Still, the aforementioned quartet turned in noteworthy performances, along with a number of other Stoughton runners.
Green earned a medal after finishing the Division 1 boys’ 5K varsity race in 17:34, good for 20th place.

David Lockhart (12.18) and Luke Butera (13.30) were tops for Stoughton in the boys’ freshman race (3K/1.9 miles), with Jason Marshall (14:22) and Jonathan Oliveira (14:46) also running.
“These kids got their first taste of the intense statewide competition at big meets,” Blonder said of his freshmen runners.
Wayne Barnaby (20:14), Mark Phan (22:14), Jack D'Addieco (24:09), and Sam Freitas (24:35) also competed in the varsity race. Sean Ellertson (23:47) and Matt Boykin (24:21) ran in the 5K JV race.
On the girls’ side, Kelly came in third in a field of 107 runners in the 3K freshmen race, with a time of 12:46.
Kaitlyn Elwood (14:55) and Shannon Barkey (15:13) also competed in the freshmen race.
Emelina Kozak finished the 5K JV race in 27:00.
And in the 5K varsity race, O’Neil came in 16th out of 98 runners with a time of 22:17. Simms finished 24th in the same event with a time of 22:33.
Sara Pinchieri (25:42) and Rebekah Medina (28:01) also competed.
