Stoughton High Girls' Basketball Team One Win Away From Tourney

Chrystal Holland and Nicole Daniels too strong for Foxboro in the front court Tuesday night.

This is not a good time to be playing the .

Just ask Foxboro, who dropped a 57-44 decision to the Black Knights Tuesday night in Stoughton. It was the Black Knights' sixth straight win and seventh out of their last eight. Stoughton is now 9-4 overall and one win away from qualifying for the tournament.

"It took a little bit in the beginning of the season to get people to believe in one another and play like a team," said Stoughton High head coach Janet Sullivan. "That's what they are doing right now."

When the Black Knights play like they did against Foxborough, it's very difficult to beat them.

"Overall, I just thought it was a nice team win," said Sullivan. "We had good balance offense and defense. I thought our defense was pretty strong tonight."

Stoughton causes all kinds of problems for opponents with their front line of senior Chrystal Holland, senior Katherine Chlus and junior Nicole Daniels. Holland was top scorer with 17 points, while Daniels had 14.

"They are very tough inside," said Foxborough head coach Lisa Downs. "We don't have [Ashley] Snyder [who has been injured] and she is going to be out for some time."

Foxborough (2-12) came out strong and only trailed by three at the end of first quarter, 17-14, but the Black Knights got on track and held the Warriors to just four points in the second quarter as they took a 35-18 lead into halftime and never looked back.

"We kept [Daniels] down to two points in the first quarter," said Downs. "She had a really strong second quarter [12 points]. We tried to switch up some defenses and tried to throw some different looks at them in the second half."

After the first quarter, the Black Knights got into a comfortable groove.

"Big, big credit to our point guard Emma Zuk," said Sullivan. "She was very poised and very under control. [Zuk] is seeing the floor really well and made a couple of absolutely gorgeous passes tonight.

The Black Knights will have a bye Friday night.

"The kids are on quite a roll," said Sullivan. "They have really jelled and we had some nice offensive sets. They have taken their time and they believe in their offense and believe in the fact that everyone on the floor can contribute."

Junior guard Andrea Marcotte was the top scorer for the Warriors with 11 points, while Ally Perry had nine and Kassidy Quadrozzi, eight.
