Stoughton Father, Son Bond in Cooperstown

Jim Derochea and his son, Trevor, both suited up for the final game of a Columbus Day weekend baseball tournament in Cooperstown, NY.

Over Columbus Day weekend, Stoughton’s Jim Derochea played with his Boston Adult Baseball League (BABL) team in a friendship tournament on Doubleday Field in , the site of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

In the final game of the weekend, Derochea thought it would be a nice experience to play with his son, Trevor—“a father-son first for us,” Derochea said.

Derochea’s team had a 2-2 record in the tournament, beating the North Shore Reds in the final game that weekend, 8-4. The father-son duo both went 2 for 3 in the finale.

“The biggest thrill [came] in the 6th inning when Trevor doubled and scored the run that put us ahead for good on my sharp single to left,” Jim said.

“I am representing the Boston All-Stars at the 48+ Roy Hobbs World Series at the end of October so this was a great tune up for me, but more so, it was the thrill of a lifetime to play on the same team with Trevor (rather than coach him),” Jim added.

Jim is the coach of the . Trevor, a 2010 graduate of , was one of the top pitchers in the Hockomock League while playing for the Black Knights. He’s currently playing fall baseball for Massasoit.
