Photo Gallery: Stoughton Wins Foxboro Friendship League Championship

The 8-year-old Stoughton team beat Raynham Thursday evening to win the Foxboro Friendship League Championship, advancing to face Braintree for the Friendship League Title on Saturday.

The Stoughton Friendship League team () trailed Raynham 2-0 early in Thursday night’s championship game, but the youngsters had plenty of fight left, scoring a combined nine runs in the third and forth innings to win 9-6.

Stoughton and Raynham were squaring off for the Foxboro Friendship League Championship at Foxboro’s Booth Field. They were the last two teams standing in the 32-team league.

Now, Stoughton advances to face the Braintree American Friendship League team, who beat Plymouth North to win the Braintree Friendship League Championship, a league of 33 teams.

The Friendship League Title game will be played Saturday at 7 p.m. at Hollingsworth Field in Braintree, which features a head-to-head meeting between the Foxboro and Braintree League champions.

Vida Gallagher, VP of Summer League baseball for Stoughton Youth Baseball, compared Thursday night’s win over Raynham to winning the AFC Championship, and said Saturday’s title game was akin to playing in the Super Bowl.

Against Raynham, Jake Queeney hit two key triples, one in the third, and another in the fourth.

Stoughton’s four-run third gave them a 4-2 lead. Stoughton added five more runs in the fourth to increase the lead to 9-2. CJ Carpenter had a triple with the bases loaded to drive in three.

Raynham didn’t go quietly scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, doing all of their damage with two outs. But, Stoughton kept their bats quiet over the final two innings.

Noah Dembrowsky, Queeney and Carpenter pitched for Stoughton.

Stoughton beat Wellesley to win their division and beat Walpole in the semifinal round to advance to the championship. No Friendship League from Stoughton had previously advanced this far.
