Harley David scored his first varsity points, as did Alex Green. David finished second in the high hurdles and Alex Green came in third in the shot put.

Zach Gibb (40.39), Andrew Kelly (40.57) and Pat Jackman (41.32) all ran personal bests in the 300-meter event; Michael Romaine (1:39.28), Sheldon Oliveira (1:39.29) and Jack D'Addieco (1:39.96) all ran personal bests in the 600-meter event; and David Lockhart (3:09.46), Alec DeNapoli (3.10.53) and Mark Phan (3:11.92) also all ran personal bests in the 1000-meter event.

All three of these races “featured spirited competition between teammates,” boys’ indoor track coach Harvey Blonder said.

Nick Green, Alves and Phan are the captains for this year’s team. Stoughton has the largest team it has had in recent years, with 63 on the roster.

“We will be looking for continued contributions from Alves and [Nick] Green as they are among the league's best,” Blonder wrote in an email. “We are also hoping senior Gabe Garcia will help in his first year of track. Junior Andrew Kelly has looked good in practice and younger team members Zach Gibb, Lennox Green and John Eppenstein are much improved.

“Returning team members Romaine, Barnaby, Oliveira, David and Jackman will definitely be a factor in any success we have. Another newcomer who has practiced well is junior Michael Paulkner. Freshmen Jason Marshall and David Lockhart have already made an impact on the varsity team.”

While OA scored the season-opening victory, Blonder is staying positive.

“Although we were overmatched by Oliver Ames I believe we will compete well against the other teams in the Davenport division and our best will do well in league-wide competition,” he said.
