Jackman and Paul Lead Stoughton High Indoor Track Teams to Victory

The Stoughton High boys' beat Foxboro 76.75 to 17.25 on Thursday to pick up their first win of the season (1-2), while the girls' earned a 71-23 win over the Warriors to improve to 2-1.

Led by strong performances across the board, the Stoughton High boys’ and girls’ indoor track teams both scored convincing wins over Foxboro Thursday at BU.

The Stoughton boys won 76.75 to 17.25 to pick up their first win of the season (1-2), while the girls earned a 71-23 win to improve to 2-1.

Pat Jackman (15 points) was Stoughton’s top male performer, almost single-handedly outscoring the entire Foxboro boys' indoor track team.

Jackman won the 55-meter dash (6.90 seconds), the 300-meter event (39.21) and the long jump (18’0”). He qualified for the state meet, held later this season, in the dash. He had already over the winter break.

Other event winners, according to boys’ coach Harvey Blonder, included Jack D'Addieco in the 600-meter (personal best of 1:34.08); David Lockhart in the 1000-meter (personal best of 3:00.05); Wayne Barnaby in the mile (a personal best of 4.49); Nick Green in the 2 mile (personal best of 10:07); Brandon Alves in the shot put (46'5”); and the 4 x 400-meter relay team of Zach Gibb, Mike Romaine, Jason Marshall and Sheldon Oliviera.

Barnaby’s time in the mile also qualified him for the state meet.

Second place finishes were turned in by Malachi Baugh in the 55-meter dash; Harley David in the 55-meter hurdles; Lennox Green in the 300-meter; Oliviera in the 600-meter; Gabe Garcia in the 1000-meter; Ben Cromwell in the shot put; and Gibb in the long jump.

High jumpers Marshall, Gibb and Andrew Kelly all tied for first with Foxboro, Blonder said.

Tevin Afonseca, Alec DeNapoli, Alex Green and John Eppenstein all recorded third place finishes.

On the girls’ side, coach Bob Clarke said he had a “multitude of first place winners.”

Jade Paul came in first in the 600-meter and the high jump; Ifeoma Okeke finished first in the dash and the 300-meter; Kerry O'Neil won the mile event, while Deirdre Simms won the 2 mile; Mackenzie Hudson came in first in the long jump; Nobrina Seng finished first in the shot put; and Alicia Macomber came in first in the 55-meter hurdles.

The 4 x 400-meter relay team, over the winter break, finished first in the event against Foxboro. The relay team is comprised of Julia Quattrucci, Rachel Berkowsky, Mackenzie Hudson and Jade Paul.

Meanwhile, Leesa Snyder qualified for states in the 55-meter hurdles.

Freshmen and sophomores have a meet on Saturday, Jan. 7. The next team-wide meet for the boys’ and girls’ is Thursday, Jan. 12 at Sharon.
