Green Leads Stoughton High Boys’ Cross Country in Season Opener

The Black Knights fell to Foxboro last Wednesday in Stoughton's cross country opener.

Stoughton’s Nick Green paced the Black Knights’ in their season opening meet against Foxboro last Wednesday at Houghton’s Pond, coming in second place, but the Warriors were still able to top Stoughton, 20-39 (with the lower score prevailing).

Green finished the 5k course in 17:37, good for the second best time a Stoughton runner has recorded at Houghton’s Pond, head coach Harvey Blonder said.

Wayne Barnaby, 20:07 for 6th place, and Alec DeNapoli, 20:26 for 8th place, also cracked the top 10 for Stoughton. Senior Mark Phan, who finished in 21:20, came in 11th.

In what Blonder said was a “nice sign for the future,” two freshmen turned in sold debut efforts. David Lockhart, 21:27 for 12th place, and Jason Marshall, 21:46 for 14th place, were the Black Knights’ 5th and 6th runners.

Junior Jack D'Addieco finished seventh on the team with a time of 23:02. “After an injury plagued sophomore season D'Addieco was thrilled to be back on track,” Blonder said.

Freshman Luke Butera and first-year senior Sam Freitas rounded out the top 20 for Stoughton.
