Green, Kelly, O’Neil Pace Stoughton High Cross Country Teams at D3 Championships

The Stoughton High boys' and girls' cross country teams took part in the 2011 MIAA Eastern Mass Division 3 Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park this past weekend.

The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams participated in the Division 3 Championship meet at Franklin Park on Saturday, with Nick Green leading the boys’ team, turning in his best time on the course, and with Amy Kelly and Kerry O’Neil leading the girls’ team, both finishing in the top 25 out of 149 runners.

Green ran the Division 3 boys’ 5K race in 17:12 and finished 22nd overall in a field of 158 runners, but coach Harvey Blonder said it was a “bittersweet ending to his season.”

“Despite running his best time (17:12) on the classic course and finishing 22nd overall he failed to advance to the all state meet due to a strong individual field,” Blonder said. “In every other division Nick's place or time would have qualified him. Still his overall season was outstanding.”

Wayne Barnaby (19:19), Alec DeNapoli (19:50), Jason Marshall (21:07), David Lockhart (21:41) and Jack D'Addieco (22:23) rounded out the Stoughton boys’ team’s six participants. Blonder said all ran well.

“Marshall and Lockhart should be congratulated on competing in this high quality event in their freshman year,” Blonder said.

On the girls’ side, Stoughton finished ninth among the 22 teams in the Division 3 field.

“A great ending for a pretty good season,” girls’ coach Bob Clarke said.

Kelly, a freshman, finished 20th overall in the Division 3 girls’ 5K race with a time of 20:46. O’Neil came in just five seconds behind Kelly, with a time of 20:51, finishing 24th overall.

Jade Paul, recovered from her knee injury, was the next Stoughton girl to cross the finish line, finishing in 22:15.

Deirdre Simms (22:32), Susanna Noe (23.12), Kaitlin Elwood (23.43) and Sara Pinchieri (24:53) also ran well.
