Stoughton's Green, Jackman Qualify for States at Boys' Indoor Track Meet

Nick Green and Pat Jackman paced the Stoughton High boys' indoor track team at their meet on Wednesday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

On what was officially a bye week, the boys’ indoor track team still competed at the Reggie Lewis Center with the other Hockomock League schools on Wednesday, and while the Black Knights were not keeping score against another team, there were several individuals who turned in noteworthy efforts.

Namely, Nick Green and Pat Jackman, who both qualified for the state meet later this season.

Green qualified in the 2-mile, running a personal best of 10:18 on Wednesday. Jackman qualified in the long jump. His 19’5” jump was more than a foot better than his previous personal best, boys’ head coach Harvey Blonder said.

Meanwhile, Wayne Barnaby continued to inch closer to the 5-minute mile mark, finishing in 5:05 on Wednesday.

Gabe Garcia returned from injury, turning in a 5:20 time in the mile. Lennox Green ran well in the 300-meter event (40.49) and Mike Paulkner also improved his long jump by more than a foot with a 17'9" jump, Blonder said.

In the high hurdles, Kevin McDonald paced the Stoughton athletes with a new personal record (9.71 seconds). In the relay Jack D'Addieco cracked the 60-second barrier for the first time. Sheldon Oliviera also ran his best relay split, Blonder said.

Blonder explained that 2011-12 is the first year of a new format in the league where varsity athletes compete on the fastest tracks in the area (Reggie Lewis and BU) with limited entries in each event.

Franklin High also hosts non-scoring developmental meets where sub varsity athletes compete, Blonder continued. He said varsity athletes may also occasionally compete at these meets if it can help their performance.

The varsity squad is back in action on January 5 against Foxboro (at BU).
