The Stoughton High boys' and girls' track teams kicked off their respective seasons Thursday, April 4 with a home meet against Sharon. The Stoughton boys won 76-60, while the Stoughton girls were edged 70.5 to 65.5.

The following is from Stoughton boys' coach Harvey Blonder:

The Stoughton boys defeated Sharon 76-60 to win their first meet of the season. Leading the way were Malachi Baugh who won the 100-meters (11.3 seconds), 200-meters (23.5 seconds), and long jump (19' 6") and Andrew Valle who won the javelin (133' 4"), triple jump (38' 4") and placed second in the 110-meter high hurdles (17.1 seconds).

Other Stoughton winners were Harley David  in the 110-meter hurdles (16.9 seconds), Alex Green in the discus (112' 7")  and the 4 x 100-meter relay team of Lennox Green, Marcus Middleton, Matt Mack and Valle. The relay team ran a state qualifying time of 45.7 seconds.

David Lockhart (mile, 4:46; 800-meter, 2:08), Jack D'Addieco (400-meters, 53.4 seconds; shot put, 40' 11.75"), and Samir Sofi (long jump, 18' 11"; high jump 5'6") all had a pair of second place finishes.

Wayne Barnaby finished second in the 2 mile (10:30) and third in the javelin (119' 2"). Joey Wilder finished second in the discus (87' 3"). Jason Marshall was third in both the 400m (54.2 seconds) and the high jump (5' 4")

Other third place finishers were John Eppenstein (400-meter hurdles, 65.8 seconds), Evan Schulze (2 mile,11:24), Alfred Parker (long jump, 18' 5") and Shawn Connolly (shot put, 40' 11.25").

The boys had a well balanced attack with points scored in throwing, jumping, sprinting, hurdling and distance running events.

GIRLS' RECAP

The following is from Stoughton girls' coach Robert Clarke: 

In a closely contested meet between Stoughton and Sharon, the meet came down to the last event. Sharon won the 4x400 relay and won the meet by a score of 70.5 to 65.5. 

Highlights for Stoughton: Ariene Ohimor won the shot put and the discus and qualified for states in the discus throwing 96'4".

Maya Barrant won the 100-meter dash; Katie Daly won the mile; Kerry O'Neil won the 2 mile; Sara Quattrucci won the 400-meter event; Shelby Sprague won the 110-meter hurdles; and Emily Quattruci won the javlin. 

Athlete of the meet was Ohimor.
