Gallery: Stoughton High Hockey Season Opener vs. Foxborough

Out shot 36-13 Wednesday evening, the Stoughton High hockey team dropped its season opener, 3-1, to Foxborough at Stoughton's home ice at the Asiaf Arena in Brockton.

Trailing 1-0, Stoughton freshman Ben Litwack scored with 1:03 left in the opening period to tie the game. Fellow freshmen Eoin Doherty and Mark Sheehan assisted the Litwack goal.

The tie was short-lived, however. Foxborough took a 2-1 lead 1:08 into the second period on a Kyle Sperzel goal (Aidan Hyland had the assist).

Hyland scored midway through the third period to give Foxborough a two-goal cushion and some insurance in the final minutes of play.

P.J. Sheehan played well in goal for Stoughton, recording 33 saves.

"I think the kids were very nervous. They were playing extremely tentatively," coach Dan Mark said. But he said as the game went on, nerves were less of an issue.

Foxborough improves to 1-0-1, with the Warriors tying Southeastern in its season opener. Stoughton, meanwhile, starts the season 0-1. The Black Knights next face Bishop Feehan at the Alexio Arena in Taunton Saturday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m.
