Gallery: Perfect Pirates Top Marlins for Stoughton Youth Baseball's American League Championship

The American League Pirates fell 3-2 to the Red Sox in the third and decisive game of the .

It was the last time the Pirates have lost.

The team went 20-0 in the 2012 regular season, then swept three best of three series en route to the title, finishing with a perfect record of 26-0.

This is believed to be the first time a team has gone undefeated from start to finish, regular season and playoffs. 

The Pirates beat the Marlins two games to zero in the championship round, with the final win coming Friday, June 15. The A.L. Marlins went 16-5 in the regular season, the second best record in the league.

The Pirates swept the Tigers in the quarterfinals and Red Sox in the semifinals before playing the Marlins. Meanwhile, the Marlins beat the Phillies and White Sox to get to the championship.

The championship and perfect season was a sweet way for manager Jim Gallagher to cap his long tenure with the Pirates. His son, Matthew, and Tim Kellogg, both 12, have been with the team the three-year maximum, since they were 10.
