First Win Not a Fluke: Stoughton High Boys’ Tennis Wins Again

The Black Knights beat Norwood 3-2 on Wednesday for their second win of the season.

For a team that went four years between victories, the wait this time around was significantly shorter—just 48 hours.

The Stoughton boys’ tennis team , snapping a losing streak that extended more than four seasons. They were on the wrong end of a 3-2 decision the next day, Tuesday at Oliver Ames, but rebounded Wednesday afternoon at Stonehill College against Norwood for win number two.

The Black Knights earned a 3-2 victory against Norwood, improving to 2-11 this season. The team is 2-1 this week.

The second doubles team of Sheldon Oliveria and Josh Levenson won their match in three sets. They won the first set 6-4, fell 6-0 in the second set, but bounced back to win the decisive third set 6-3.

This is the eighth individual match Levenson has won this season, and the sixth individual match Oliveria has won.

Alex Lobrano won his first match at first singles this season, beating his opponent 6-3, 6-3.

With each team having won two matches, Jalen Joseph was asked to come through for the Black Knights and clinch the victory, and just as he did against Foxbrough, the second singles player delivered.

Joseph’s match was a marathon, lasting more than three-and-a-half hours. He dropped the first set 7-6, rebounded to take the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6, and won the third set 6-3.

Stoughton coach Matt Bernstein said Joseph “came out with authority” in the third set to win the match and with it secure the team’s second victory this season.

This was Joseph’s sixth individual victory of the season.

Against Oliver Ames on Tuesday, Joseph, Oliveria and Levenson combined to give Stoughton their two points. Joseph earned a 6-2, 6-2 win, while Oliveria and Levenson beat their doubles opponent 6-4, 6-1.

Stoughton travels to Attleboro on Thursday, the last of four matches in as many days for the Black Knights.
