Dixon Pitches Gem, But Stoughton Falls to OA

Stoughton falls 2-0 at home to OA, despite another well-pitched game from Mike Dixon.

The was in action Monday afternoon against Oliver Ames, the leader of the Davenport Division. The Knights received from junior Mike Dixon but fell 2-0 to the surging Tigers.

Dixon, who carried a no-hitter into the 4th inning, only allowed single runs to score in the fourth and fifth innings, with the second of the runs being unearned.

But that is all the Tigers needed to secure the win, improving to 10-3. Stoughton falls to 7-9.

After today's game Dixon has pitched 23 and 1/3 innings over 4 starts, allowing 8 runs without receiving even a single run of support.

Dixon, despite some tough losses has kept a very positive attitude, and is a very good example on how to make the best of any situation.

The Knights were able to mount a rally in the 5th, loading the bases with consecutive hits by Will McGrath, Zach Gibb and Jovani Pires, but the rally fell just short, with no runs being able to cross the plate.

Stoughton essentially faces a must-win situation when they face Wednesday in Stoughton, as a victory is crucial for Stoughton's tournament hopes.

Stoughton can get into the tournament finishing the season at .500 (or better). In this case, Stoughton would need to go at least 3-1 in the last four games (Sharon, at Quincy, at Canton, Kelly-Rex Crossover).

Or, finish second or tied for second in the Hockomock League's Davenport Division. Stoughton is battling Sharon for second place. An OA win over Sharon on Tuesday also helps Stoughton's cause.

When asked about Wednesday's game against Sharon junior captain Pat Jackman said, "Without a doubt it is going to be the biggest game of the year. The stakes are very high, but we like that as a team. We are going to go out and hopefully play to our full potential against a good Eagles team."
