College Sports Notebook:Neim's in a Rush for Nichols College Bisons

The following is a list of athletes from Stoughton on college sports teams. If you know an athlete, who isn't listed, please send an email to michaelh@patch.com.

Stoughton athletes are making names for themselves in the college ranks.

Felipe Niem is a junior running back for the Nichols College football team. The 5-9, 230-pounder already has 138-yards rushing in three games and scored three touchdowns from his fullback spot. The Bisons are off to a 1-2 start after losing to Coast Guard, 37-20, last Saturday. Nichols will be hosting Endicott Saturday at 1 p.m.

Stoughton's Val Driscoll, who played at Archbishop Williams, is returning to the University of Michigan's women's basketball team. She missed last year with a knee injury, suffered during summer workouts. Driscoll, 6-4, is in her senior season with the Wolverines. This summer, the team took a trip to Europe, playing in France and Italy. It was the first foreign trip for the program.

Stoughton's Matt Green had another strong game as the Bridgewater State University football team defeated Fitchburg State on the road, 30-20, Saturday. Green caught nine passes for a 136 yards and two touchdowns. On the season, he has 27 catches for 568 yards and nine touchdowns. The Bears will be playing Western Conn. State at 1 p.m.

Francis Ike is a 6-6, 303-pound offensive tackle for the University of New Haven Chargers. Last year, the marketing major was named to the Fall 2012 Northeast-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. New Haven (3-1) will be at Assumption College Friday at 7 p.m.

Brandon Alves is a sophomore defensive tackle for Springfield College. In three games, he had three tackles and assist on another. Springfield lost a heart-breaker at the University of  Rochester, losing, 36-35. The Pride is 3-1 and will be hosting Union College Saturday at noon.

Steven Depina is a sophomore midfielder for the Curry College men's soccer team. In four games, Depina had a goal for the Colonels, who are 4-3-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.  Colby Calisi is a junior linebacker for the Curry football team, who is off to a 0-3 start and will be at MIT Saturday. 

Andrew Valle is a freshman defensive back for the Worcester State Chargers, who are 3-1 on the season after beating Mass. Maritime, 64-63, Saturday.

Chris Cadigan, who played at Boston College High, is the starting center for Bentley University, while Adam Leonard is a freshman linebacker for the Falcons.

Matthew Mack is a freshman defensive back at Becker College, who is 1-2 on the season after losing to Hartwick, 45-19, Saturday. He has appeared in three games with three solo tackles and assisting on two others.

ThDrexel Dragons men's basketball team will be looking for a big senior year from Dartaye Ruffin, a 6-8, 250-pound forward. The Dragons will be opening up the season, Nov. 9 at UCLA.

MacKenzie Hudson is a sophomore forward-midfielder for the Saint Michael's College field hockey team. They are 2-6-0 on the season.

Nick Green is a sophomore runner for the Lesley College men's cross-country team. Lesley will be competing at NEICAA XC Championships at Franklin Park in Boston.

Dan Elcker is a freshman quarterback for the WPI Engineers, who is off to a 2-2 start and will be at Hobart Saturday.

Taylor Chamberlain is a junior on the Mount Ida women's equestrian roster, competing in the walk, trot and center-advanced. 

Joey McCarthy, who played at Catholic Memorial, is a freshman infielder on the Gulf Coast State College baseball team.
