Preseason News

Lady Knights Kick-Off the Preseason TODAY!

Maybe you’ve seen them around town. They tend to have a similar look about them, especially after a long day on the field. Hair pulled back in a ponytail. Sweat soaked shirts. Grass stained shorts and shin guards. Bloody knees and muddy cleats. They’re tough cookies. They have to be. They’re soccer players.

While many of their peers spent the summer lounging by the pool, swimming at local beaches, taking day-trips to Canobie Lake, or hanging out with friends at an evening bonfire, these young ladies were off putting in hours of hard work with two dates in mind - August 22nd and 23rd.  That focus had them running countless miles, practicing shots on goal, perfecting footwork, playing summer league games, and attending captains practices as well as session after session of BFS (Bigger, Faster, Stronger) at the high school.

This past Thursday and Friday were those two fate-filled days in August, and almost fifty young ladies declared their goal of becoming members of the 2013 Lady Knights Soccer Team. Varsity Coach Gary Muello and JV Coach Tara Daniels challenged that goal by subjecting the girls to a rigorous two-day tryout in which skills were tested, friends faced-off against friends, and stamina was pushed to the breaking-point. This was a true test of drive and dedication. Not to mention it was hotter than Hades last Thursday and Friday, so these young ladies were "welcomed" back to soccer season with a figurative baptism by fire. In the end, all the hard work , sacrifice and aching muscles paid off.  Coach Muello said, “The girls have been working very hard and pushing themselves to get ready for the always difficult Hockomock League. They are focused and having fun being together as a TEAM. It’s about them, their TEAM.” Coach Daniels added, “I am excited for the season to begin. The girls have stepped out on their field this preseason with a great work ethic and positive attitude which should result in a great season!”
