Team “Vicious and Delicious” Captures 7th Annual OMS Volleyball Club Championship

On Friday, June 1, Team Vicious and Delicious defeated Team Swag 7 for the 7th Annual Volleyball Club Championship.

Team Vicious captured the title by set scores of 25-19, 25-19, 25-23. The sets were close throughout the match with each team holding the lead at some point during each set. The deciding factor that tipped the scales in favor of Team Vicious was their superior serving skills, missing only two serves in the last set to capture the title as OMS Champions.

Members of Team Vicious were Josh Williams, Brandon Teixerira, Smeet Patel, Antoyne Selman, Malyke Ross, and Guy Eddy. The members of Team Swag 7 were Shanel Ford, Birica Pierre-Louis, Bianca DeSousa, Kathleen Laporrey, Kethney Massenet, Selena Florival, and Vicki Emile.

Tied for third were Team Spiker and The Papayas each losing in the semifinals held Wednesday, May 30.  

Members of the Spikers were Kayln Rockman, Mallory Breen, Shannon Flaherty, Lattia Smith, Riley Bagley, and Sophia Tamarkin. The Papayas consisted of Arianna Riske, Alyssa McGillicuddy, Julia Foye, Samantha Malley, Olivia Jarasitis, and Lauren Carter.

The OMS Volleyball Club met every Wednesday and Friday afternoon during the months of March, April, and May. Volleyball Club was open to any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader who wished to attend and learn the basic skills of volleyball at the competitive level.

On average, between 35-60 students attended each afternoon session. Players were introduced to basic volleyball techniques, practiced each skill, and then played friendly matches at the end of each after-school session. The culminating event for the season being the OMS Volleyball Championships.
