State releases spring 2011 MCAS scores. See how Stoughton fared on the test in grades 3-10.

Spring 2011 MCAS scores for Massachusetts’ public schools were announced this afternoon.

In grades 4-10, Stoughton students scored highest in the English Language Arts (ELA) portion of the test.

Third graders were the only in the district to score higher in mathematics than in ELA. This mirrored a statewide trend, according to statistics obtained from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s website.

There were several subject tests in various grade levels in which Stoughton students scored proficient or higher at an equal or higher rate than the state average. However, the same could be said for Stoughton students scoring in the needs improvement range.

Stoughton’s percentage of students receiving warning/failing scores was generally below the state average across the board.

The number of Stoughton students receiving scores in the needs improvement or warning/failure range outnumbered the Stoughton students receiving scores of proficient or higher for the grade 5 and grade 8 science and technology/engineering tests, but this was a trend statewide as well.
