Stoughton YMCA Hosting '5 School 5K' and 'Healthy Kids Day' April 28

The "It's Elementary 5 School 5K & Fun Run" and the YMCA's Healthy Kids Day are scheduled for Saturday, April 28 at the Stoughton YMCA. All the fun starts at 9 a.m.

The Old Colony YMCA’s is hosting their annual Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 28. The event is free and open to the entire community. It takes place on the campus of the Stoughton Y – 445 Central St.

From 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. there will be a variety of events for families. Enjoy activities like touch a truck, story time/meet and greet with Curious George, face painting, raffles, prizes, games, and more.

For $1 children and adults can interact with animals at the “Barn Babies” station.

There will also be a family picnic area set up where you can purchase food from or bring your own snacks.

Prior to the Healthy Kids Day events, there will be a 1 mile fun run at 9 a.m. and a 5K road race at 10 a.m. on the 28th.

The second annual “It’s Elementary! 5 School 5k & Fun Run” is sponsored by the five Stoughton elementary school PTO/PTAs (, , , and ) partnering with the Stoughton YMCA.

Entry fees are $10 per runner for the 1 mile fun run and $25 per runner for the 5K.

Race registration is required. You can register at www.active.com or on the day of the race. Be sure to indicate what elementary school you are running for—the school with the most participants will receive a trophy. Runners will receive a free race t-shirt while supplies last.

The 1 mile fun run is a trail run that will loop around the YMCA grounds. The 5K will start and finish at the YMCA. The route will include parts of Central St., Pleasant St. and Turnpike St.

There will be prizes for the top finishers in the various age groups.

About Town columnist Mark Snyder will serve as the MC of the race.

Proceeds from this event will be divided among the five elementary school PTO/PTAs and a portion will be donated to the YMCA for their Youth Development Programs.

The YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day is a national program designed to improve the health of families across the country.

In order to provide parking for all visitors, there will be a Park & Ride or Park & Walk from the (137 Walnut St, Stoughton). You may park your car and take a shuttle to the event or walk a short 1 mile.
