More than 150 adult learners and their families from Stoughton gathered late last week for the 15th annual Stoughton Adult Basic Education Achievement ceremony at Stoughton High School.

The event marked the culmination of 34 weeks of adult literacy classes that were held each Tuesday and Thursday night for more than 80 adults students working to improve their English language skills as they strive to become U.S. citizens.

The program is a collaborative effort by Stoughton Public Schools and Massasoit Community College, and is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Stoughton Superintendent Maggie Rizzi spoke at the event, while Selectmen TJ Recupero and Cynthia Walsh presented two proclamations to Manal Melik, who recently received her U.S. citizenship.
