Stoughton Asks Town's Representatives for Support for New High School

The Stoughton School Committee and selectmen put together a letter to send to the town's representatives to ask for their support for a new high school.

A joint letter calling for the building of a new high school from the Stoughton selectmen and school committee was expected to be delivered to the town's state representatives this week by school committee chairman Joyce Husseini.

Letters are being given to state senator Brian A. Joyce and state representatives William Galvin and Lou Kafka asking for their support to get the state building association to put Stoughton on their building list.

Representatives have toured the existing structure. They also have received post cards, emails and letters from Stoughton residents asking them to support a new high school.

School superintendent Dr. Margueitte Rizzi and school committee member Deborah Sovinee also meet with legislators in Boston to express the need for a new high school.

Members of the committee also met with former United States Senator Mo Cowan to get his advice on how to get the funding. Cowan worked in the Governor Deval Patrick administration before being appointed to the United States Senate.

If Stoughton gets on the list, they will be asked to provide locations for the new school. Rizzi said the available land at the current high school site makes it a prefer choice as it would make an easy transition from the old building to a new building.
