Stoughton Academy Graduates Class of 2012

Diplomas were presented to the Class of 2012 in a graduation ceremony held June 12 at Stoughton High.

Stoughton Academy graduated 25 students as part of its 17th Commencement Program, held Tuesday, June 12 at the .

Since it was established in 1995, more than 400 students have graduated from this program.

According to the Stoughton Public Schools website,Stoughton Academy seeks to offer the academic resources of the Stoughton School System to all residents of Stoughton and surrounding communities who desire to complete a course of study and receive a High School diploma.”

The program is designed for “anyone who is not enrolled in high school at the present time but wishes to complete his/her High School education.”

Speakers at the graduation told the students that while they didn't take the "traditional" road to a high school diploma, their perseverance and willingness to complete their high school education while working a full time job and while dealing with family obligations, was proof they "had what it takes," as program director Thomas McCormack said in his remarks.

"Don't let anyone tell you it took you longer...that doesn't matter," Interim Town Manager Joseph Feaster said. "The swiftest one isn't always the one who wins the race."

Joyce Husseini and George Dolinsky were in attendance representing the Stoughton School Committee. They were joined by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marguerite Rizzi and Deputy Superintendent Jonathan Ford.

In her remarks, Husseini told the graduates, "Your choice to be here is among your greatest successes."

"You have shown us all, but more importantly have shown yourself, that you can do anything," she continued.

Student speakers included Steven Giusti and Amanda Yaitanes.

"Class of 2012 we should be proud of where we are today," Yaitanes said. "Don't look at [graduation] as an end, but as a beginning."
