Stoughton Academy Graduates Class of 2011

Diplomas were presented to the Class of 2011 in a graduation ceremony held June 7 at Stoughton High.

Stoughton Academy graduated 31 students as part of its 16th Commencement Program, held last Tuesday, June 7 at the .

Since it was established in 1995, more than 400 students have graduated from this program.

According to the Stoughton Public Schools website,Stoughton Academy seeks to offer the academic resources of the Stoughton School System to all residents of Stoughton and surrounding communities who desire to complete a course of study and receive a High School diploma.” The program is designed for “anyone who is not enrolled in high school at the present time but wishes to complete his/her High School education.”

Stoughton Academy Director Thomas McCormack said much of the success of the program is due to the dedicated staff. In his remarks to the graduates, he told the Class of 2011 that they proved to themselves that they “do indeed have what it takes.”

“When you don’t succeed the first time, you must redouble your efforts,” McCormack said.

Joyce Husseini, Deb Sovinee and George Dolinsky were in attendance representing the Stoughton School Committee. In her remarks, Husseini told the graduates, “Your willingness to overcome your obstacles makes you an inspiration to us all.”

Student speakers included Mollie Jennings, Arianna Caci and Renee Vaillancourt. In her speech, Jennings, who received her diploma in the in March and is now a certified nursing assistant, thanked Stoughton Academy for the opportunity to complete her high school education.

“[We] have so many more opportunities available to us,” she said.

Prior to awarding diplomas, Superintendent of Public Schools Dr. Marguerite Rizzi, said “the traditional path is not the only path, and [it’s] not always the best path…there are many paths to success.”
