South School Second Graders Have a Hoot Seeing Owls and Other Birds of Prey

Students at the South Elementary School in Stoughton enjoyed a birds of prey program, getting an up-close look at different kinds of owls, as well as a falcon.

Second graders in Barbara Mills and Jess Rosenthal’s classes at Stoughton’s got an up-close look at some of the birds they had been studying in their owl unit when Jim Parks, a licensed raptor rehabilitator, visited the elementary school the Friday before April vacation.

Parks brought along some birds of prey—a few owls like the Great horned owl and the tiny saw-whet owl, as well as a peregrine falcon—to show the students.

The students were eager to share their knowledge about birds.
