A recorded phone message was sent out to parents in the Stoughton Public Schools system early Thursday evening after it was discovered that a student at the was distributing a “small number of clear plastic bags containing a green moss-like substance” that morning in school.

The substance was determined to be something used in household artificial plant pots, according to the phone message.  It was not marijuana. But the message warned that if anyone ingested or smoked the substance it could “lead to injury.”

The phone message, which lasted about 45 seconds, stated that “we believe that we have recovered all of the material,” but the message went on to say there was a “slight chance” some students might still be in possession of it.

Below is a transcript of the message sent out to parents on May 26. You can listen to the message in the media gallery above.

This morning we discovered that a student at the O’Donnell Middle School distributed a small number of clear plastic bags containing a green moss-like substance that is used in household artificial plant pots.

It is not marijuana.

If it is ingested or smoked it is possible it could lead to injury.

While we believe that we have recovered all of the material, there is a slight chance that some might remain in the possession of Middle School students or students who have interacted with them.

We ask that you remind your child not to take anything from another student. If he or she is offered something by another student, please report it to an adult. Call the Stoughton Police Department if your child has this substance or knows of any student in possession of it.
