Natick Schools to Lock, Staff Front Doors Following CT Tragedy

The front door at all eight Natick Public Schools will be locked and staffed beginning Monday after a mass shooting took place at a Connecticut elementary school Friday.

NATICK, MA -- Dr. Peter Sanchioni, superintendent of the Natick Public Schools, sent out an email to all parents at about 2:45 p.m. Friday notifying them that, beginning Monday the front door of all schools will be locked and staffed throughout the day.

This decision came after a T, that left 26 dead this morning.

"We are deeply saddened by the events that have taken place today in Newtown, CT.," Sanchioni wrote in his email. "Know that we have in place strong security systems in all eight of our schools. Our administration is well versed in handling lock down and crisis situations."

In addition to adding the extra security of a locked and staffed front door and letting parents know that administrators do have training in how to deal with crisis situations, Sanchioni also compassionately acknowledged how mentally and emotionally difficult the tragedy in Connecticut and the changes in security in Natick could be for some students.

"We realize how upsetting this is going to be for many of our students, and we look to the parents and guardians to help them with care and understanding this weekend," Sanchioni wrote in the email.

"If any child needs assistance," Sanchioni continued, "please contact any one of our principals first thing Monday morning. Our School Resource Officer, Elizabeth Heffler, is also available to assist you. She can be reached at 781-913-9375."

And when Tim McVay wanted to vent his fury on whoever he wanted to harm in the Oklahoma City tragedy, he didn't use a gun. Just as the Islamist terrorists do so many times. they blow themselves & all who are around them up. It's unfortunate that only AFTER a tragedy like this, do we start to talk about all the things that were known about a person like this or those who have committed these deeds. They were loners, or had some mental illness, in some cases had spoken about what they were going to do, or posted it on some social media site. But so many average people want to be "PC " or not become involved in any way, shape or form. Guns ARE used by the agencies you speak of "to protect the people of the USA", but you may never be able to read someones mind if their intent is to harm or kill, & they usually find a way to do it, even if it doesn't involve a gun.

I have a Question: "Have schools not been locking all door's, but for one that goes to the Front Office? I believe in Minnesota schools have been looking all the door's for some years now, (atleast 15-20 yrs now)because a Girl (13 yrs old) was raped in a Girl's Locker Room while class were going on, by a guy off the street. She was in there because she got her first monthly. (shower and change cloths) It was in a Junior high school that I when too back in the 1970's. (the rape happened in the mid- 1990's) Do we have to build our schools like a Jail to keep our kids safe?

Making schools into forts is not the answer. Banning guns is not the answer. Restricting magazine capacity is another ridicules attempt at a solution. Stop for a moment and imagine what a run of the mill shotgun loaded with buckshot would have done. I understand he was a gamer so I suppose it’s a good thing he wasn’t into sward and sorcery games and attacked with a sword. Maybe some of the problem lies with the politically correct removal of any morel guidelines combined with the media sensationalism of so many incredibly violent blood and guts zombie blasting training films and games. For someone of normal morels and mental capabilities they are just exciting games but for an unstable individual they may just become training films.

Maria, it sounds like you are willing to live in a police controlled environment. I am not. You, nor ANY gov't will NEVER, remove guns from criminals. The only thing that stops a bad person with a gun, is a good person with a gun. I would like to send you articles of several instances where a gun saved the lives of women and children who were at home alone with NO police available, while repeat offender felons roam free, armed. I respect your right to remain unarmed, (despite the utter foolishness of that status), I demand that you, in turn respect MY right, to be armed. I offer you a free NRA Basic Pistol Course, taught by me. Contact me and allow me to educate you away from the media pollution regarding firearms.
