Gibbons School Second Graders Enjoy Quilting Experience

As part of a connection to "The Quilt Story" by Tomie dePaola, second grade students at the Gibbons got a hands-on experience with quilting.

The following is submitted by Mrs. Kenneally and Mrs. King, both second grade teachers at the Gibbons:

Art teacher and Assistant Principal, Patricia Martin, recently shared her quilts and quilting knowledge with the second graders at the .  

As part of a connection to The Quilt Story by Tomie dePaola, second grade students got a hands-on experience with quilting. Mrs. Martin shared materials, tools, books, patterns, as well as unfinished and finished quilts.

Through this story second grade teachers have been able to integrate quilting pattern arrays as part of their lesson on multiplication.

The students enjoyed making a "classroom quilt" and reading supplementary literature on quilting.
