Dawe 5th Grade Spelling Bee a Big S-U-C-C-E-S-S

Andrew Schlehuber won the Spelling Bee, held Wednesday at the Dawe, with Amanda DaSilva coming in second.

The words became more challenging with each passing round, with students asked to spell multi-syllable words, or words with silent letters or vowels, but by correctly spelling “disaster” and “chemical,” Andrew Schlehuber won the 5th Grade Spelling Bee.

Schlehuber and second place finisher Amanda DaSilva went back and forth for 14 words in the final round, before Schlehuber had the opportunity to spell disaster and chemical to clinch the win.

The 5th Grade Spelling Bee, held Wednesday morning at the school’s library, included 12 participants.

Sarah Ferzoco came in third. Rounding out the top six finishers: Abe Korenblyum, Trevor Chadwell and Anna Panacy.

Also participating: Matt Cardoso, Meghan Foley, Madeline Jooleck, Jackie Evangelista, Eliza Chiu and Emerson Sprague.

Fifth grade teacher Samantha Lutchen moderated the Bee.

Each participant correctly spelled multiple words before being eliminated, with the group of 12 fifth graders turning in an all-around F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C performance.
