Stoughton DPW to Finish Hydrant Flushing This Week

The flushing may cause discolored water.

The Stoughton Department of Public Works will complete a weeks-long hydrant flushing effort this week.

The water main flushing program, which began on April 22, will continue through this Friday, May 9, with work taking place during the week only. Times of flushing will vary by location, with the majority of work being done between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., according to the DPW

Areas to be flushed include Washington Street, Central Street, Turnpike Street and Page Street, as well as portions of side roads. For a complete list, click here

The flushing is expected to cause discolored water in varying degrees in town, the DPW said. Those who experience discoloration should flush their systems by opening the cold water faucet for a few minutes, then wait an hour, and repeat as necessary until the water is clear.
