Stoughton by the Numbers: How Many Births and Deaths? How Many Republicans and Democrats?

A look at statistics from the Stoughton Town Clerk's Office, according to data from the 2012 Annual Town Report.

The recently published 2012 Annual Town Report, compiled by Reggie Medeiros-Kowalczykowski, executive assistant to the Town Manager, looks back at the previous year in Stoughton. 

The 285th Town Report includes summaries from the various town departments.

Stoughton Town Clerk's Office


  • Population: 25,686
  • Births: 293
  • Deaths: 450
  • Marriages: 136
  • 4,457 copies of birth, death and marriage certificates provided to customers
  • 1,592 dog licenses issued
  • 194 business certificates issued (including 9 for discontinuances, 3 for renaming, and 4 for location changes)
  • $88,596.15 in total receipts collected in Town Clerk's Office
  • Registered voters: 18,148 overall; 9,928 unenrolled; 6,471 Democrats; 1,657 Republicans; 55 Libertarians; 14 Green-Rainbow; 1 Socialist
  • 2,181 voters registered in 2012 at Town Hall
  • 6,945 voter changes made (name, address, party, etc.)
  • 20,990 total votes cast between four elections
  • 1,371 absentee ballots processed between four elections
  • Voter turnout: 2,803 votes cast in March 2012 Presidential Primary; 2,656 votes cast in April 2012 Town Election; 1,542 votes cast in September 2012 State Primary; 13,989 votes cast in November 2012 Presidential Election 
  • 7,001 combined votes cast in first three elections of 2012 (see above), just half of the 13,989 votes cast in the November 2012 election alone where the race for president (Obama vs. Romney) and U.S. Senate (Brown vs. Warren) topped the ballot in Massachusetts
