Officials to Discuss Stoughton Park Expansion Plan at Town Meeting Wednesday

Article 33 looks to appropriate funds to renovate the Pierce Street playground.

Stoughton officials plan to address a park expansion and playground renovation plan at Wednesday's session of Town Meeting

Town Meeting members will address Article 33 on the warrant, which looks to see if the town will vote to raise and appropriate, transfer or borrow from the CPA Open Space and Recreation funds for the construction and installation of new playground equipment, resilient surfacing, walkways and other site amenities at the Pierce Street playground, adjacent to Halloran Park. The estimated cost for the project is $585,000.

The article has been supported by the Stoughton Board of Selectmen, and the Stoughton Finance Committee voted 11-3 to approve the article, though there was some concern that the renovated facility will be designed to accommodate children aged 2 to 5 years, according to this year's Town Warrant

The plan offers a variety of amenities to park visitors of all ages, and revisions to the plan reflect a greater balance in equipment for different age groups, officials said this week.

Sign-in for Wednesday's meeting will be from 7:15 to 7:35 p.m. at the Stoughton High School auditorium. The opening gavel will be at 7:40 p.m.
