Massachusetts State Senate Passes $1.5 Billion Road Bill -- Including $770K For Stoughton

The Massachusetts State Senate passed a $1.5 billion transportation bond bill that will fund transportation-related projects throughout the Commonwealth for Fiscal Year 2013, Stoughton’s State Senator Brian A. Joyce announced in a press release on April 19.

The legislation also includes $200 million in Chapter 90 funds for cities and towns across the state to use for rebuilding and repairing local roads and bridges.

Stoughton is slated to receive , according to the press release.

This is $2,292 less than the Chapter 90 funding set aside for Stoughton for this fiscal year ($774,754).

There is a formula that determines how much funding a community receives.  It is based on the number of jobs, miles of road, and population.

“This investment in state road, bridge, and rail transportation projects is important for our continued commercial vitality and economic recovery, and the Chapter 90 funds will provide for much needed repairs to local roads throughout the state,” Senator Joyce said in the release.

Joyce is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets. His State Senate district includes all of Stoughton.

The bill now goes to the House of Representatives.
