Mooney once again presided over the swearing-in.

Hartman, a Canton resident, emerged as the selectmen's finalist after a lengthy search for a permanent town manager. He started as Stoughton's Town Manager Dec. 17.

He was previously town manager in Jaffrey, NH (2007-2012). Prior to his job in Jaffrey, Hartman worked in municipal government in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Iowa and Illinois, including serving as town administrator in the Massachusetts towns of Wareham and Medway and as town manager in Warren, RI.

The town welcomed Hartman at a public meet and greet hosted by the selectmen on Dec. 20. He succeeds interim town manager Joseph Feaster, who had served as town manager since April 1, 2012, following former town manager Francis T. Crimmins, Jr.

Feaster's last day was Dec. 28, 2012. The week-and-a-half overlap between the start of Hartman's contract and the end date for Feaster's provided a transitional period.
