Young Child Struck by Car in Stoughton, Medflighted to Hospital

A boy was struck by a car on Canton St. in Stoughton Wednesday evening. The driver of the vehicle has been charged.

A 7-year-old boy was hit by a car traveling on Canton St. in Stoughton, near Drake Ave., just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Stoughton Fire and Police officials.

The boy sustained serious, but non life-threatening injuries, Captain Scott Breen of the Stoughton Fire Department said.

The boy was transported from the scene to the Stoughton High School football field, where he was then medflighted to a Boston hospital. Breen said the boy was conscious when the medflight arrived.

The driver of the vehicle, Marcio Calixto, 36, of Buckley Road in Stoughton, will be charged with the unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, Stoughton Police Deputy Chief Robert Devine said.

Devine said the incident is still under investigation, but police were told the boy came running out of a wooded area in the vicinity of the O'Donnell Middle School onto Canton Street. The side of the vehicle ended up hitting the boy.

Stoughton Fire and Police responded to the call. The Canton Fire Department also assisted, Breen said.
