Two-Alarm Fire Causes Severe Damage to Stoughton Home Monday Night

A fire at 19 Churchill Road in Stoughton caused severe damage to the property, although there were no injuries.

A two-alarm fire caused severe damage to a single family home in Stoughton Monday night, according to Stoughton Fire Captain Bob O'Donnell.

Group 4, under the command of Captain O'Donnell, responded to a report of a bedroom fire at 19 Churchill Ave. (side road off Lincoln St.) at 6:24 p.m. Jan. 7. The fire started in a first floor bedroom in the front of the home and spread to both levels.

Upon arrival crews could see heavy smoke and fire showing from the front of the 1.5-story Cape style home, O'Donnell said.

The three occupants home at the time were outside when crews arrived, O'Donnell said.

There were no reported injuries.

However, there was extensive smoke and fire damage on both levels of the home. O'Donnell said he considered the home to be a total loss.

Stoughton Fire Department Investigator Greg Bourget was on scene Monday night investigating the cause of the fire, along with the State Fire Marshal's Office.

Stoughton was assisted by the Avon, Canton and Brockton fire departments on scene. The Sharon and Easton Fire Departments provided station coverage in Stoughton.

My heart and prayers go out to the family that was living there. Unfortunately it is very hard to replace pictures and things. I am just happy that nobody was hurt including the fire fighters. Our family never lost the house. It was sold in 2002 and they passed away in 2003.

My father (Ken Churchill) drew up the plans for that house across the driveway (Churchill Ave) from where I grew up. My father and Uncle Richard built that house from the ground up --- even dug the cellar. What a loss --- but as one of my friends said to me --- at least Uncle Richard and my father are not still alive to see this. I am so sadenned. Love to all, Uncle Howard.
