Stoughton Teacher, Father Recognized for Inspiring Award-Winning Song

The story of Paul Monti's son, Jared, inspired the country song "I Drive Your Truck."

The Stoughton Fire Department this week issued a congratulations to Stoughton high School Teacher and Gold Star Father Paul Monti after a well-known country song inspired by his son received an award Sunday.

Monti's son, Army Sgt. 1st Class Jared Monti, was killed in Afghanistan while trying to save a fellow soldier, according to the Stoughton Fire Department

The story inspired the song "I Drive Your Truck," written by Nashiville Songwriter Connie Harrington and performed by Lee Brice. Harrington reportedly heard Monti discuss his son on the radio, sparking the idea for the song that was chosen as Song of the Year by the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night, according to the SFD.
