Stoughton Man Charged with Robbing Rite Aid in Both Stoughton and Canton

A 39-year-old Stoughton man has been charged with separate counts of armed robbery following robberies at the Rite Aid in Stoughton and at the Rite Aid in Canton.

The Stoughton man who was arrested for allegedly robbing the Rite Aid at Shaw's Plaza in Stoughton on June 12, turns out to be the same suspect Canton Police were looking for following a robbery at the Rite Aid at Cobbs Corner in Canton back on May 26.

Richard Stone, 39, of Lincoln Street in Stoughton, was charged with armed robbery in both cases.

He was arraigned at Stoughton District Court for the Canton robbery on July 10, held on $50,000 cash bail at the Norfolk County House of Corrections in Dedham, according to court documents.

Stone allegedly went into the Canton Rite Aid on May 26 around 1:15 p.m. He asked the female cashier for cigarettes and also asked for directions to a location in Sharon, according to a police report filed by Canton Patrolman Robert Schneiders.

Stone then demanded the cashier give him all of the money in the register and told her he had a gun. The cashier could see a gun sticking out of a black backpack Stone was wearing, the report states.  Stone then allegedly fled in a gold colored vehicle, driven by another man.

Seventeen days later, on June 12, Stone then allegedly robbed the Stoughton Rite Aid at knifepoint.

He entered the store around 5 p.m. and asked the female cashier there for cigarettes. He then displayed a folding knife with a six-inch blade, demanding money, according to a police report filed by Stoughton Patrolman Michael Doyle.

Stone initially got away, but was eventually located in North Attleboro later that night with the help of the North Attleboro Police Department, according to the SPD Facebook page.

While at the Norfolk County House of Corrections for the Stoughton robbery, Stone allegedly asked to speak with Canton Police and said he had committed the armed robbery at Rite Aid in Canton as well, according to a report filed by Canton Detective Eric Wade.

Stone is due back in court in early August for a probable cause hearing.
