Stoughton Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Argument Turns Violent

A 42-year-old man was charged with attempted murder following an incident early Sunday morning on Bell St. in Stoughton.

A 42-year-old Stoughton man is charged with attempted murder after an argument turned violent early Sunday morning, according to Stoughton Police.

Police were called to 16 Bell St. in Stoughton at 12:54 a.m. on Oct. 21 after "several calls [reported] a fight and people yelling/screaming," according to the Stoughton Police log.

In addition to attempted murder, Michael Safranek, 42, of 29 Bell St. in Stoughton, is charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; and single counts of possession of a firearm while intoxicated and possession of more than one ounce of marijuana, according to the log.

"During the scuffle, Safranek allegedly placed a small handgun to the temple of the victim and pulled the trigger with negative results," the Stoughton Police Facebook page reports.

SPD Sgt. Michael Merola and SPD Officers Christopher Grover, Stephen Collins and Christopher Davis took Safranek into custody, according to the SPD Facebook page.
