Stoughton Fire Department Fights Two-Alarm Garage Fire Friday Morning

The Stoughton Fire Department responded to a two-alarm garage fire on Wales Ave. in Stoughton Friday morning.

The Stoughton Fire Department was on scene of a large garage fire at 21 Wales Ave. (side street off Plain St.) Friday morning.

The call for the fire came in at 10:22 a.m. on Jan. 11.

The two-alarm fire caused extensive damage to the garage, which is not attached to the nearby home. Captain Scott Breen of the SFD said the garage is considered to be a total loss.  No vehicles were parked in the garage, but personal property was stored there, Breen said.

One firefighter was treated for a knee injury, but otherwise there were no other medical issues, Breen said.

Flames rose high above the garage and when the fire was knocked down, heavy smoke continued to billow. Fire crews did not leave the scene until 1:25 p.m., three hours after arriving, with investigators remaining there beyond that. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Breen said.

Stoughton Police blocked off Plain St. from its intersection with Morton St. to its intersection with West St. as crews dealt with the fire. That portion of Plain St. has since reopened.

Fire departments from Canton, Easton and Sharon assisted Stoughton crews on scene.
