Pregnant Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Car in Stoughton

A female pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car Sunday night in Stoughton. The driver of the vehicle has been charged with motor vehicle homicide.

A female pedestrian struck by a sedan Sunday around 8:45 p.m. near the intersection of Lincoln Street and Grove Street in Stoughton has died, according to a press release from the Stoughton Police Department.

The female, who suffered multiple traumatic injuries, was pregnant, according to the release, and died after being transported via Medflight to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Stoughton Police and Fire personnel were on scene and found a "pregnant pedestrian on the ground" and attempted life saving aid, according to the release.

Police have identified the victim as 35-year-old Joanne White of Stoughton.

The driver of the vehicle involved has been charged. Karen Blau, 46, of Suffolk Road in Sharon was arrested at the scene and is "expected to face multiple criminal charges including motor vehicle homicide" during an arraignment at  Stoughton District Court Monday morning.

"Stoughton Police, in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police and the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office have conducted a preliminary investigation and reconstruction of the scene," the release states. "The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be brought."

A female pedestrian struck by a sedan Sunday night in Stoughton was Medflighted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with life-threatening injuries, according to Stoughton Fire Captain Scott Breen.

The accident occurred around 8:50 p.m. on July 21 at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Grove Street.

The female, in her 30s, was struck by a vehicle, suffering multiple traumatic injuries, according to Breen.

There were no other injuries.

Shortly after first responders arrived, the pedestrian was transported from the scene to the Medflight landing zone at the Stoughton High football field, and then airlifted to MGH, Breen said.
