Driver Charged in Sunday's Hit-and-Run Crash in Stoughton

The Stoughton Police charged a Canton woman for her role in a hit-and-run car crash at the intersection of Central and Washington Streets July 8 in Stoughton.

The driver who took off in the has been identified and charged, the Stoughton Police Department announced Wednesday on the Department's Facebook page.

Melissa Degrande, 38, of 3213 Windsor Woods in Canton has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury; leaving the scene of an accident with property damage; negligent operation of a motor vehicle; and failure to stop at a red light.

The July 8 at the sent three to the hospital, including one who was transported to Boston via MedFlight.

Degrande's truck, traveling north on Washington St., went through a red light and hit the driver's side of a sedan traveling on Central St., which was making its way through the intersection at the time.

While the injuries were initially thought to be more serious, the male driver of the sedan, who was transported via MedFlight, luckily did not sustain any major injuries beyond a broken nose, Stoughton Police Executive Officer Robert Devine said.

The other two passengers in the sedan, a male and a female, were transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton with minor injuries.
