Brockton Man Arrested for Assault, Disorderly Conduct in Downtown Stoughton

A 47-year-old Brockton man was arrested on July 2 after punching people in Stoughton Center.

Stoughton Police arrested a Brockton man Monday after he assaulted people in Stoughton Center and threatened police officers, SPD Executive Officer Robert Devine said.

John Noonan, 47, of Brockton, was charged with two counts of assault and battery and disorderly conduct after several witnesses told police Noonan was punching people.

Devine said Noonan was stationed by the bus stop in front of Honey Dew Donuts on Washington St. in the downtown. The alleged incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on July 2.

Devine said the victims sustained minor injuries.

Noonan, who was intoxicated, resisted police when they arrived, tried spitting on officer John Lydstone and challenged officers to a fight, according to Devine.

Noonan continued his belligerent, unruly behavior upon arrest and as a result, the booking process could not be completed, Devine said.
