Governor's Council nominee does not pass the Council

At the Governor’s Council meeting  held on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 the nominee under consideration did not get the required votes from the Council

Attorney Michael McCarthy was up for a position to the District Court.

His vote was stalled by a 3-3 vote, with one abstention, Lt. Governor Murray was not present for the meeting and could not cast the deciding vote.

Charles Oliver Cipollini - District 1

Terrence Kennedy - District 6

Thomas T. Merrigan - District 8

Voting against the nominee were

Marilyn M. Petitto Devaney - District 3

Christopher Ianella - District 4

Jen Caissie - District 7

Governor Patrick presided over this meeting.

Two things should be noted.

First Councilor Cipollini, who is often attacked for his no votes voted in favor of this nominee.

Secondly District Two is still not represented.

Since votes like these often receive a second vote, presumably with the Lt. Governor present it would be helpful if the candidates for the position of Governor’s Council for District Two, Robert Jubenville and Earl Sholley took the time to weigh in on this nomination.

The resume of this nominee as well as audio recordings of the hearing are available at:
