SPS REPORT CARD

Last week, Stoughton parents received report cards issued by Massachusetts Department of Education for our Public School System and for individual schools.

The report cards actually contained information regarding: student enrollment, teacher qualifications, student achievement, accountability, and the progress our school is making toward narrowing proficiency gaps for different groups of students.

In her cover letter for the district report card, superintendent Rizzi ignored all the serious problems identified in the report card, but attempted to focus reader attention on teacher licenses. She actually wrote: “The attached report cards contain general information about the teachers in our schools and District as a whole. In addition, you may request individual information about the qualifications of your child's teacher(s).”

It is incredible that the superintendent’s cover letter attempts to divert parents’ attention away from the more important problems related to student achievement, accountability, and the progress our school is making toward narrowing proficiency gaps for different groups of students.

I suppose the superintendent did not wish to mention that Stoughton School district is still a level 3 district. She apparently did not wish to mention that, this year, our Gibbons School was demoted to level 3, and our Dawe School was demoted to level 2.

In terms of district’s progress toward narrowing proficiency gaps, Superintendent Rizzi certainly did not mention that:

Stoughton School District Did not meet target for all students

Stoughton School District Did not meet target for high needs students

Stoughton School District Did not meet target for low income students

Stoughton School District Did not meet target for students w/disabilities

Stoughton School District Did not meet target for African American students

Stoughton School District Did not meet target for white students.

Once again, I remain very disappointed with the Stoughton School Administration.
