I congratulate Ms. Katie Enokian for being elected the vice-chair of the Stoughton School Committee during the re=organization meeting last night, 4/16/2014. I also thank my fellow board members for bestowing upon me the honor of serving as the committee chair. This is my sixth year on the committee. I am excited for having the opportunity to serve as the school committee chair or vice-chair for the first time during my tenure.
The chair does not have much more authority than the individual school committee members. The role of the chair is to set the meeting agendas and to run the meetings.
As school committee members, our first and greatest concern is the educational welfare of the students. I am confident all school committee members will unite behind this principle. Recent election results suggest that voters like to see an improvement in communication, accountability and transparency. As chair, and a committee member I will strive to achieve significant improvements in all these areas.

We also have a lot of work to do to improve the quality of the education in Stoughton Schools, and improve the unacceptable conditions in our school buildings such as the High School and South School.
Our next meeting will be held on April 29, 2014. In that meeting, I will allow an extended period for public input. I will also add to the agenda, a topic for the school committee to discuss the problem areas, how we should attack them, and where to start.
