LETTER: Stoughton Team Leads Fundraising Efforts at South Shore CROP Hunger Walk

The following was submitted to Stoughton Patch:

The South Shore CROP Hunger Walk was a huge success this past weekend, Sunday, October 14. More than $12,000 was contributed by our neighbors and friends to support the hunger-fighting efforts of Church World Service, both here at home and around the world. 

Our local Mainspring House in Brockton will receive approximately $3,000 to aid fellow South Shore residents in need, and some $8,000 will make possible the global work of Church World Service. 

Just think, the funds raised here in Brockton and in CROP Hunger Walks across the U.S. will make a difference in the lives of people around the world - from supplying clean water to thirsty villages in Kenya, to aiding dairy farmers in Bosnia, to assisting earthquake survivors in Haiti as they rebuild their homes and lives following massive devastation.

Again, thank you to all who worked so hard to make this year’s CROP Hunger Walk such a resounding success.  Walkers came from the surrounding towns of Stoughton, Brockton, Abington, Sharon, Cohasset, Bridgewater, Easton, Rockland, West Bridgewater, Randolph and Hanover.

Special kudos, too, to The walking team from in Stoughton, who raised $3,580, the winner of our “Gold Sneaker” Award for being the team who raised the most funds, and to Christ Congregational Church in Brockton, the “Silver Sneaker" Award winner for having the largest walking team.

Volunteering, walking, donating - we all have shown that citizens of the South Shore are truly citizens of the world.  See you next year at the CROP Hunger Walk, and God bless!
