ABOUT TOWN: Bob's Famous Foodmart Cuts the Ribbon; Announces Road Race/Kids Day

RIBBON CUTTING AT BOB’S FAMOUS FOODMART:  Owners Ron DiMatteo and George Mather were beaming at a grand opening for their new sit-down dining space at Monday night.

Bob's, located at 289 Park St. on Route 27, has been a Stoughton staple for more than 50 years.

The Stoughton Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony, and Bob’s served a sampling of their wines and beers, as well as a few varieties of their Wing Dings (check out the pictures from the ribbon cutting in the media gallery).

DiMatteo told About Town that he is excited about the new 15 seat dining area.

Bob’s, which serves a full breakfast, lunch and dinner, had been a hidden gem for homemade take out food, and now customers can enjoy it inside the store.

The deli is open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. (opens at 6 a.m. on Sundays) and the store itself is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. (opens at 6 a.m. on the weekends).

When asked what his next expansion plans were, DiMatteo said, “We’re good for a little while.”  Bob’s employs 35 full and part time people.

KIDS DAY & ROAD RACE: Speaking of Bob’s, they will be sponsoring their 8th Annual Kids Day as well as a 5K run and 3 mile walk on Sunday, September 23 at Bob’s Famous Foodmart, 289 Park Street on Rt. 27 in Stoughton.

There are two events in one and it's all from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The day starts with the Third Annual Bob DiMatteo Memorial 5K Run, a 3 Mile Walk, and a Free 1 Mile Kid’s Run.    

T-shirts will be given to all 5K and 3 Mile participants.

The FREE 1 Mile Kid’s Race is at 9 a.m. 10 a.m. is the start of the 5K Run.  At 10:10, the 3 Mile Walk starts.

Then, at 11 a.m., Kid’s Day festivities start.  Kid’s Day will feature food, refreshments, prizes, and FREE giveaways for the kids.

There will be a giant raffle held at 1:30 p.m.  Prizes include golf outings, sports tickets, restaurants, and a grand prize of a $500 gift card to Bob’s Famous Foodmart!

Entertainment will be provided by Stoughton DJ, David Jordan.

Kid’s Day will also feature a dunk tank, Kid’s Mini Races and Obstacle Courses, Child Quest ID and Fingerprinting, a Fire Engine, Face Painting, Bake Sale, Hot Dogs and Sausages. Proceeds from Kid’s Day will benefit Stoughton Fire Safety, Stoughton Police Explorers, Blue Dog Shelter, and the Stoughton Youth Commission. 

All Proceeds from the run and walk will go to fund two Stoughton High School Scholarships and to help a local family affected by cancer, as well as other local children’s causes.

There is a limit of 200 runners. 

Entry fee for the race is $25. There are separate divisions for males and females, ages 0-18, 19-34, 35-54, and 55+.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY: to Bob Barbell, an accountant with Specialty Catalog Corporation.  This Stoughton resident is best known for filing Recall papers that resulted in the recall of former Selectmen Gerald Goulston and Robert Mullen a half decade ago. And to Josie Harrison, an employee of Good Samaritan Hospital, and a long-time volunteer with the Immaculate Conception Church.  Her husband Dick was the director of basketball for STOYAC for many years.
