ABOUT TOWN: Who Will Catch the Rain?; Help a Stoughton Cat Find a New Home (And More...)

Welcome to "About Town with Mark Snyder," a column that will keep you up to the minute with what's what, who's who and what's going on around town. If you see or hear something we could use here, let us know by sending an e-mail to pmpco@aol.com.

WHO WILL CATCH THE RAIN? Residents can now purchase rain barrels through the town. The barrels can be used to collect rainwater from roofs to be used on gardens and house plants, saving residents money on water bills.

The barrels come in three colors, red, black and blue. They cost $75 and can be ordered through the engineering/conservation department on the second floor of .

Checks should be made out to Sky Juice, the company making the barrels. Sky Juice has partnerships with a number of other Massachusetts towns such as Sharon.

The barrels are 65 gallons and made from recycled plastic. They are fully screened to keep mosquitoes and debris out of the water.

FREE CAT - WITH CARE!  A little feline needs a home! He was found outside dodging cars in traffic. He is updated on all his shots and will have one year of free service at (on Route 138 in Stoughton near the Easton line).

He is very sweet, loves to be patted and get lots of attention! If you or anyone you know is interested please contact LAMC for more information at 781-344-2500.

The cat has a history. He nearly got run over a dozen times, and someone rescued him from the middle of Route 138. He hasn't got a name yet.

"We just took him in and took care of him. He's about four months old. We offer free care for a year and a free neutering [for the cat]," Dr. Ron Buffman of Lloyd Animal Medical Center told About Town.

GET WELL WISHES to Stoughton Police Chief , who is recovering from back surgery.

Will the Town or MWRA change residents for using this water?

Promoting rain barrels is a wonderful idea. However, I usually get mine for a cheaper price tag - for example, if you build your own with a kit, it costs merely a fraction of the price. (This kit is only $30: http://www.rainbarrelparts.com/product_rbpEM_RSP_kits_rectangular.php). That way you'll have two barrels for the price of one. But overall, great idea!
