ABOUT TOWN: Town Honors Veterans with Re-Flagging Ceremony

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND RE-FLAGGING AND FLAG BURNING CEREMONY: Dozens of cub scouts, girl scouts and boy scouts, their parents, and other interested residents turned out yesterday to watch the festivities, and to take place in the honors for our veterans.
Everyone took part in the re-flagging of the graves of all veterans at the Holy Sepulcher and Evergreen Cemeteries. Then, a collation was held for all volunteers, with Honey-Dew Donuts and Coffee served to the delight of the children---and the adults.
After refreshments were enjoyed, the old and worn flags removed from the graves were properly disposed of in a Flag Burning Ceremony. There were about 28 speaking parts available for the kids, and they all enthusiastically took part, with parents manning digital cameras and digicams.

Veterans Agent Mike Pazyra was pleased with the weather and the turnout, and taught the children (and some of the parents) about the origins of the flag and our country. He was ably assisted by the Veterans Secretary Kelly Lamb. Children all went home with a new American Flag.

STOUGHTON RESIDENT HELPS FLAG BOSTON COMMON: Gwen Bailey of Stoughton helped put flags in Boston Common on Thursday, as part of the Memorial Day weekend festivities in Boston. Courtney Sacco of Back Bay Patch snapped the photo in our Gallery.
DON'T FORGET: Monday's Parade & Memorial Square Dedications! The Memorial Day Parade (May 30), a day and a parade to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, will begin at 9 a.m sharp.
The route will go from the Stougton Public Works on Central Street to the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery for two ceremonies. From there, the route will go to the Pearl Street Cemetery for a ceremony. The parade will then proceed to the Stoughton Town Hall for a ceremony and wreath laying at the Memorial Bell. From there the parade will proceed through Stoughton Square to Faxon Veterans Memorial Park for ceremonies at the two memorials. The parade will then proceed to Washington Street and on to Evergreen Cemetery for two concluding ceremonies at the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Lot and the American Legion Burial site.
Participants in the parade include the VFW Color Guard and Firing Detail, Veterans groups, the Fire and Police Departments, the High School Band, the St. Johns Band, Town and State officials, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and possibly other groups. The ceremonies at the various sites include opening prayers, playing by the bands, an Honor Guard Firing Detail, the laying of wreaths and various speakers.
Immediately following the parade, at approximately noon, there will then be a collation at the VFW at 837 Washington Street, followed by a Street Dedication and a Memorial Square Dedication. All are welcome to attend the collation and dedications.
The scheduled Memorial Square Dedications are as follows:
- At 1:00 p.m., Mahoney Avenue will be re-dedicated to Daniel H. Mahoney Jr., a WWII KIA.
- At 1:40 p.m., Adams Street at the entrance to the High School will be dedicated to Anthony M. Klim.
