ABOUT TOWN: Stoughton Stars on Stage and on Screen

Welcome to "About Town with Mark Snyder," a column that will keep you up to the minute with what's what, who's who and what's going on around town. If you see or hear something we could use here, let us know by sending an e-mail to pmpco@aol.com.

STOUGHTON HIGH ALUMNI AND TEACHER PART OF SOLD OUT MUSICAL: Paragon Park: The Musical is playing a two week, completely sold-out stint at Company Theatre in Norwell. Reviews have been incredible, and the nostalgia for the Nantasket Beach amusement park is at a peek.

About Town checked out a rehearsal of the play, before the Opening on July 27. The music is fantastic, and the memories that the musical brings to all of us who went to the Park is amazing. As someone who once spent all day riding the coaster over 40 times, this one hit a bulls eye in me.

Those with Stoughton ties involved in the production are SHS Graduate Corinne Mason, who plays young Rose; Ron Christianson, who was Director of Fine Arts at Stoughton High for decades before his 2008 retirement. He plays trumpet in the Paragon orchestra; SHS Grad Michael Joseph, Musical Director for Paragon and Company Theatre; SHS graduate Michelle McGrath, PR Consultant for Paragon and Company Theatre; and Adam Isbitsky, SHS grad and a part of the Paragon Ensemble.

They will be screening many short films, as well as other talented filmmakers work. DJ Black Out will be spinning out front. The event is free. There will be food and drink available to purchase.

Films to be screened include Boston Accent Film's "A Manor of Speaking" with Andrea Lyman, Judi Neal Pava, Ted Garland, Linda Anne Eknoian, and our very own DALE APPEL of Stoughton! Appel was also a member of the Snyder's Stoughton TV Camera Crew.

"A Manor of Speaking" was created and filmed as part of Boston's 48 Hour Film Project. It was written by Madison Garland, the teenage daughter of Ted Garland. In addition to acting, Ted teaches film making in Weston, MA.

It is an all union ensemble cast that also includes Bradley Van Dusen.  All of the cast are members of SAG-AFTRA. Andrea Lyman has recently had a steady gig as a stand-in on "Body of Proof" in California and has only recently returned to MA.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY: To Stoughton Fire Captain Scott Breen, who celebrated yesterday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: To Lori Interrante Langer, my old buddy from Gold's gym.  Her dad Don is a volunteer with the Sons of Italy cooking crew, and Friends for Seniors. To Patty LaCivita, a familiar, friendly face in the Stoughton High office. To Thomas McGauley, who has volunteered to participate in the town's discussion on the Train Station. To Meryl Eisenstein, who has served as Daisy Troop 65157 leader, and an activist in the South Elementary School PTO. She's also a legendary baker.

To former Stoughton resident Emily Perry, whose son played football with mine in STOYAC.  To my former English teacher at Randolph High, Don Nelson, who celebrates his 75th birthday today.  Blame him for my taking up writing as a career. To Claire Shastany, Nurse Coordinator for the State Program that provides medical and forensic exams for survivors of sexual assault in the Boston area.  She is the sister-in-law of Stoughton Police Chief Paul Shastany. And, to Mary Krowski, retired from her work at Stoughton High.
